Sometimes I think I’m hiding from myself.
When I want to write, but feel unsure about the words that should spill out. I don’t know whether I’m having a cute case of writer’s block (some people say that’s not a thing, I disagree), or if I’m afraid of what will come out. What wants to come out.
I’m a known people pleaser and I will avoid confrontation at all costs. There’s already a part of me that’s wondering if this post is “okay” and generally not upsetting. I know, I exhaust myself.
Is avoiding confrontation with yourself a thing? If so, I think I try to do that – a lot. I took dance when I was younger and this is one little number I didn’t see making the stage (at least this often). Although I’d love to give it a shout-out for being a bit of an impressive skill, it’s also probably frowned upon (in the realm of self discovery, self acceptance, self love, self anything encouraging).
All to say, I might not be able to define it concisely (my afraidness), but I feel it. I feel more afraid in this life than I’d like to. Even as I get older. Even when I say I care less than I used to. Even on days when I feel the most empowered. Especially on the days I feel like I’m holding my true self back.
When I push myself to come out of hiding, writing is my way to feel less afraid.
If you feel like you’re also playing a solo game of hide-and-seek, you don’t have to be afraid about at least one thing – you’re not alone.
Ready or not, here we come?
